April, 8 2005 District 1 News

It is springtime, the sun is shining and great things are happening in Greene County!

The architect and the general contractor are performing Value Engineering to determine effective ways to make the completion of the project more economical. The Board of Commissioners and Building Corporation can expect to see details of the Value Engineering by the end of April.

I have asked Jim Corey, Project Manager and our Architect to evaluate and produce drawings and specifics regarding parking space on both the East and West side of the Courthouse. We should have something to evaluate in short order. Parking has been an obnoxious problem in downtown Bloomfield for a very long time. When completed, the courthouse square will be beautiful and I believe that we can find a way to have parking and green-space compliment each other.

Of course, springtime means roadwork. You will begin to see ditching, grading, mowing and paving. I have compiled a road list for paving and maintenance this year and it includes Mineral-Koleen road, Sylvania Ridge road, Dry Branch road, north sections of 1250E near Hobbieville, and Black Ankle road. The county highway is doing a great job in District 1 with ditching and maintaining of roads.

The council and the commissioners recently signed a letter of support for a northeastern interchange of the proposed I-69. The Citizens Advisory Committee for I-69 is meeting and interchanges for Greene County are priority one. Greene County officials will need to consider letters of support for all interchanges proposed, including the much-needed St. Rd. 54 interchange.

Bloomfield and our Covered Bridge are included in ABATE’S Tour Indiana 2005. Motorcyclists from all over the State will be touring to Bloomfield.

Please welcome them and their money.

The Greene County Horse Council is planning another show in June which includes Team Roping on Friday night and special entertainment on Saturday night. Go to www.greenecountyhorsecouncil.com for more information.

The South Western Indiana Merchants (SWIM), a group of area entrepreneurs marketing goods and services utilizing only Indiana products, are experiencing great success. Look for these merchants and their products at the Flower and Patio Show and other events this spring and summer. The Community Kitchen efforts are gaining ground and plans include a Farmers Market, retail plans and even educational opportunities.

With the recent sale of the KPT building, the removal of the Russ Tire Center eye-sore, rigorous courthouse construction and the continuing efforts of all involved in the Crane Technology Park, there are great things in store for the future of Greene County.

Enjoy springtime in Greene County!
